CHERRY GROVE, S.C. – Golfweek magazine, one of the game’s most respected voices, has released its annual list of the “Best Courses You Can Play,” a ranking of the premier public layouts in each state, and Tidewater Golf Club was honored among South Carolina’s elite.
Golfweek’s nationwide panel of experts ranked Tidewater, long renowned for the quality of its design and stunning beauty, as the seventh best public course in the golf-rich Palmetto State. The ranking is further confirmation of Tidewater’s status as a bucket-list Myrtle Beach golf course.

Featuring nine holes that play along either Cherry Grove Inlet or the Intracoastal Waterway, Tidewater is one of the prettiest courses along the East Coast, complementing an outstanding design with unforgettable coastal vistas. The four holes along Cherry Grove, highlighted by the par 4 fourth hole, a gentle dogleg left, and the par 5 13th, which even offers a view of the Atlantic Ocean, highlight the Tidewater experience, but they are hardly alone in their excellence.
Tidewater, which was the first layout ever named “Best New Course in America” by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, delivers on the promise of an unforgettable experience from the bag drop thru the 19th Hole. The commitment to customer service is unmatched, but the layout is the always the star attraction.

From the opening par 5, which offers the chance for a strong start, to the daunting par 4 finisher, a test of skill and nerve as players confront the marshy water of the Intracoastal, Tidewater provides golfers a thrill ride. Beautiful views, short par 4s, demanding approaches and spectacular greens are just a few of the course’s many virtues.
South Carolina is home to a major championship venue (Kiawah’s Ocean Course) and a regular PGA Tour stop (Harbour Town Golf Links), and Tidewater has earned its spot alongside the state’s best.
While earning the respect of golf course raters is gratifying, Tidewater’s ultimate goal is to please the game's most important constituency - golfers. Based on the course’s 4.5 rating, after 678 Google reviews, it’s doing exceedingly well on that front.
“Superb golf course with stunning waterfront scenery,” Josh Davis wrote in a 5-star evaluation. “The course is challenging, but very fair. There are no blind shots, with generous fairways and large greens.”
With the fall golf season approaching, tee times at Tidewater continue to be in high demand. For more information or to book a tee time, visit the course’s new-look website at TidewaterGolf.com.
