The Person Behind the Golf Shop: Celebrating Matt Scabery
Matt Scabery, Golf Shop Manager at Tidewater Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, has been named the 2026 Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association Employee of the Year. The award recognizes a career spent caring for guests, supporting coworkers, and helping keep the club running day after day.
Matt joined Tidewater in December 1999, first greeting golfers at the bag drop. Since then, he has worked across golf operations and even spent time in course maintenance to better understand the irrigation, equipment, and daily work involved in caring for the course. That experience gives him a view of Tidewater that reaches far beyond the Golf Shop.
What does Matt do at Tidewater?
As Golf Shop Manager, Matt is responsible for all buying and merchandising in the Golf Shop. He also oversees inventory, helps coordinate tournaments, leads staff, and takes on many of the projects that keep the guest experience running smoothly.
Our team knows Matt as someone who will step in when a problem needs solving or a coworker needs a hand. Much of that work happens behind the scenes, but its effect can be felt throughout a visit to Tidewater.
A career rooted in North Myrtle Beach
A North Myrtle Beach native, Matt first learned to enjoy working with guests in his family’s restaurant. After studying graphic arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design, he began working in golf at The Landings Golf Club in Savannah. He later returned to the Grand Strand, worked at local courses, and found his professional home at Tidewater.
More than 26 years after his first day here, Matt continues to share his knowledge with new employees and welcome golfers who return year after year. His Employee of the Year award is a fitting recognition of the care and consistency he brings to his work.
