Scenic Course Remains One of Myrtle Beach’s Best
Golfers across the nation enjoy an annual spring trip to Myrtle Beach to shake the rust off the clubs after a long winter, and Tidewater Golf Club will be at the top of countless 2021 bucket lists.
Following the often dreary winter months, players flock to Myrtle Beach to enjoy the area’s temperate weather and stunning coastal beauty. Few courses come close to matching the scenery at Tidewater, one of the prettiest layouts along the East Coast, making it an oasis for golfers from colder climates.
Tidewater, which has been ranked among the nation’s top 100 public courses by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, wows players with nine holes that play along either the Intracoastal Waterway or Cherry Grove. The four holes that play along Cherry Grove - 3, 4, 12, 13 - are among the Grand Strand’s most photographed.
Holes 3 and 12 are an unforgettable pair of par 3s, both of which memorably bring Cherry Grove into play, including a tee to green carry over water on No. 12. The par 4, fourth, a gentle dogleg left that plays along Cherry Grove, might be Myrtle Beach’s best two-shotter, combining natural beauty with heroic shot values.
Not to be outdone, No. 13, a par 5, offers a distant view of the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of just two holes in Myrtle Beach to do so.
The holes that play along the Intracoastal, most dramatically the par 5 eighth hole, are unforgettable, particularly when passing boats complement the scenery, but the quality of the layout extends beyond its beauty.
Tidewater’s inland holes, including a pair of short par 4s, are a tantalizing blend of challenges, alternating between daring players to take a chance and rewarding patience. From the bag drop to the 19th hole, Tidewater’s has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best courses in Myrtle Beach and all of South Carolina.
