PGA Pros Rank Tidewater Golf Club Among Myrtle Beach’s Best Courses.

CHERRY GROVE, S.C. -- Tidewater Golf Club has been ranked among the best courses in South Carolina for nearly three decades, and Myrtle Beach area PGA professionals, in a first-of-its-kind survey, have reaffirmed the layout’s place among the Grand Strand’s premier venues.

More than 50 PGA pros participated in a MyrtleBeachGolfTrips.com survey asking them to rank Myrtle Beach’s top 20 golf courses, and Tidewater finished No. 3 in the highly anticipated poll, further validation of the course’s lofty reputation. Dunes Club and Caledonia were the only layouts ranked ahead of Tidewater.

“There are 90 courses in Myrtle Beach, the game’s most popular destination, and it’s gratifying to be ranked as the area’s third best layout by my fellow PGA professionals,” said Chris Cooper, Tidewater’s general manager. “Tidewater is in pristine condition and the layout is as pretty as any in South Carolina.”

The course has eight holes that play either Cherry Grove Inlet or the Intracoastal Waterway, providing Tidewater a natural canvas that can’t be replicated. The third and 12th holes, a pair of adjacent par 3s that play along Cherry Grove, are among Myrtle Beach’s most photographed.

With a multi-tiered green, No. 3 is a delightful challenge with up to a two club difference in length based on hole location. The stair-step green is protected in front by a pair of deep bunkers and water hugs the left side, making the tee shot the round’s most nerve-wracking. The fourth hole, a gentle dogleg left that plays along rolling terrain, offers a panoramic view of the water and is regarded by many as Myrtle Beach’s best par 4.

Memorable as those two holes are, many golfers prefer No. 12, which requires a carry over water, and No. 13, a par 5 that features a view of the Atlantic Ocean, as Tidewater’s best stretch.
