Five Reasons Fall is the Perfect Time to Play Tidewater Golf Club
CHERRY GROVE, S.C. – After a summer that brought high temperatures to much of the nation, fall has mercifully arrived, bringing comfortable weather and golfers
Packaging multiple Myrtle Beach golf courses maximizes value, and Tidewater Golf Club anchors some of the area’s most popular offers.
A seasonal menu, fresh ingredients and homemade entrees make Joey’s Clubhouse Grille a delectable part of the Tidewater experience.
Using state-of-the-art technology and an understanding of the game’s human element, Tidewater’s instructional team will help you turn bogeys into birdies on our North Myrtle Beach golf course.
Nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove Inlet, Tidewater Golf Club delivers unmatched natural beauty and a layout that has been ranked among the nation’s top 100 public golf courses.
Home to nine holes that play along the water, Tidewater’s stunning landscape leaves golfers raving long after they’ve returned home. Particularly memorable are holes 3, 4, 12, and 13, all of which reside along Cherry Grove, a tidal inlet that empties into the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
While beauty is at the heart of the Tidewater experience, it’s only part of what makes the property special. Tidewater’s unwavering commitment to customer service and impeccable course conditions are the equal of the scenery, making this one of the best golf travel experiences in the Southeast.
This straightaway par 5 offers the chance for a strong start. Plenty of room off the tee and manageable length means par or better is a reasonable goal. Just make sure you avoid those fairway bunkers 100 yards from the green.
A gentle dogleg right, a tee shot on the left side of the fairway positions players to fire at the pin. The putting surface, typically one of the fastest, runs from back to front so stay below the hole.
Tidewater’s stunning beauty reveals itself for the first time on this devilish par 3. Length is not an issue, but a three-tiered green and wind coming off Cherry Grove add substantially to the challenge.
The best par 4 along the Myrtle Beach golf scene, this dogleg left hugs Cherry Grove. A risk-reward decision awaits on the tee – shots to left-center offer a shorter approach but it’s a much riskier drive – and the green is ringed by deep bunkers.
The challenge here is simple – the hole is long and straight. Any chance at par is dependent on hitting the tree-lined fairway and avoiding the large bunker that flanks the right side of the green.
Water that lurks on the left is more in play than it appears from the tee, so approach this tee shot with caution. Water also bisects the fairway twenty-five yards short of the green. This isn’t the day’s most difficult hole but it demands your respect and two quality shots.
This is your chance to get aggressive and think birdie! There is little trouble off the tee, leaving players with a wedge in hand. One of the course’s smallest greens is fronted by a pair of cavernous bunkers, so don’t be short.
With the Intracoastal Waterway running along the left side, this a short par 5 that can yield birdie, but the hole tightens the closer you get to the green. Long hitters can get home in two but attempt to overwhelm this beauty at your own risk.
With the prevailing wind in your face, this par 3 can play longer than the yardage indicates and the green cants from right to left, toward the marshy waters of the Intracoastal. Take par here be happy.
Play to the left-center of the fairway, providing the ideal angle of attack and minimizing risk from the water that looms over the hole’s final 100 yards. The tenth fairway is generous, so the tee shot is all about positioning for a dicey approach.
This dogleg right is among the course’s most difficult challenges. The optimal drive will be to the left-center of the fairway, setting up an approach to a green that is narrow in the front and flanked on both sides by sand.
The layout returns to the majesty of Cherry Grove on this unforgettable par 3. The green is relatively benign, but the tee shot is almost entirely over water and wind coming off the ocean adds considerably to the challenge.
Cherry Grove runs along the entire right side and it poses a considerable threat off the tee, where the fairway pushes balls toward the water. This green is one of the course’s most undulating and the bunker on the right must be avoided at all costs.
A long approach, necessitated by water that interrupts the fairway, is the defining shot on the 14th hole. The green is large, runs from back to front and there is no trouble around it, but getting there is the challenge.
This hole is all about precision and golfers who aren’t accurate will pay a heavy price. The dogleg left rewards a tee shot to the right-center of the fairway, but the approach to a narrow green, fronted by four bunkers, is fraught with danger.
The course’s longest par 5 offers the benefit of playing downhill, making this a birdie hole. Avoid the trees off the tee, and your second shot will tumble towards a green that backs up to the Intracoastal Waterway, setting up a short approach.
The scorecard says this is Tidewater’s 12th toughest hole and maybe that’s true – when the wind isn’t blowing. The course’s penultimate hole typically plays into the wind, over wetlands and uphill. Par here is a great score.
This dogleg left is a championship caliber finishing hole. Tee shots must be to the right-center of the fairway, but the marshy waters from the Intracoastal lurk along the hole’s starboard side. Both the drive and approach are nerve-jangling, but take heart, the large green isn’t severe.
Expertly etching the course into this varied landscape, Tomlinson’s ambition was to create the exemplary qualities that would attract a national championship or Ryder Cup event. Flowing with the natural contours of the land, the course challenges you with a range of elevation changes not often found in seaside South Carolina. And as your round progresses, views of the Waterway, marsh and ocean bring fresh inspiration at every turn.
With its classic yet contemporary design, the course offers thrilling rewards to shot makers who take chances, use proper course management, and welcome challenges.
